Here’s What You Should Know About The 2016 Grammy Awards
Here's a reason to start dancing on the ceiling: As of this morning (February 9) Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, John Legend and Luke Bryan are scheduled to celebrate the career of Lionel Richie — MusiCares' official honoree — at the forthcoming 58th Grammy Awards, which will air on Monday, February 15 at 8 PM EST on CBS. But that's just the tip of the star-studded iceberg.
This year, music's biggest night will include performances by some of the year's heaviest-hitters: Rihanna, Adele, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and Little Big Town will all take the stage for separate numbers. Some truly intriguing trios are on the docket, too: Justin Bieber will join forces with Diplo and Skrillex, Pitbull will team up with Robin Thicke and Travis Barker, the Hollywood Vampires will debut as Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry and a tribute to B.B. King will include contributions by Bonnie Raitt, Gary Clark Jr. and Chris Stapleton. Duets will come in the form of Tori Kelly and James Bay, Carrie Underwood and Sam Hunt, and Ellie Goulding and Andra Day.
“This lineup of talented artists is just the beginning of what will, once again, prove to be music’s biggest night,” Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating what’s been a wonderful year in music, honoring the best of the best and featuring never-before-seen performances.”
As far as nominees are concerned, Lamar, Swift and The Weeknd are the night's big contenders, who have been nominated for 11 trophies, seven and seven, respectively. Each is up for Album of the Year against Alabama Shakes and Chris Stapleton, and Swift and The Weeknd will square off against D'Angelo and the Vanguard, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran for Record of the Year (you can see the full list of pop-adjacent nominees here).
LL Cool J will host the show for the fifth straight year, and said in a statement that he can't wait to take another crack at the gig. "The performances and moments that take place on the Grammy stage are awesome in so many ways for the audience and artists alike,” he said.
