Whether they are just visiting, or they are moving here, there seems to be no shortage of people who ask some pretty dumb questions about Abilene.

Does Abilene even have a drainage system?

The answer is, yes. You might not be able to tell with all of the flooding that takes place anytime it rains, but Abilene does indeed have a drainage system - it's just really, really slow. So, don't be surprised to see any of us out in a small boat floating the "Abilene River" because we have plenty of time before the water recedes.

Do people in Abilene have a drivers license?

Contrary to popular belief, yes, most people in Abilene do have a drivers license. I know that may be hard to believe, especially when it rains or snows, but we really do possess a legal drivers license - well, most of us.

So, whether we were taught in school or if Uncle Ed taught us on the back roads of Clyde, Texas, rest assured, we're not rolling without that little plastic thingy we pull out when we buy beer.

Are there any good BBQ places in town?

Are you serious? First of all, you're in Texas. Second of all, you're in Texas! I think Texas towns that don't have a BBQ restaurant, are fined or something like that. Just like Abilene is known for having a lot of churches, there is no shortage of places to get your BBQ on.

Have you ever been cow tipping?

Only if the cow gives great service. But, seriously, I have been asked this question a number of times. You know, just because we're in Abilene, Texas doesn't mean we do stupid things to animals when they are sleeping while standing up. Or do we?

Why is there never anything to do in Abilene?

I hear this complaint all the time, but honestly, I think for a town our size, we actually have it pretty good. Sure there are some areas where we could be better, particularly for the younger, single folks, but if you're raising a family, Abilene is the perfect place to be.

So, whether you like art, theater, live music, family events, different types of restaurants, or sports, there is plenty to do in Abilene - and we continue to grow.
