The local United Supermarkets are getting you ready for 'back to school' with a school supply drive for kindergarteners. The will provide kindergarten classrooms with two new, age appropriate books and school supplies needed for a successful year.

All 4 Abilene United Supermarket locations have joined forces with KTAB TV and the United Way to host the K Ready Kids School Supply Drive that will benefit children entering kindergarten in our area schools.

From now until Saturday, August 17th all stores will be taking your donations for school supplies and cash donations.  The school supplies can be dropped into the barrels located at the front of each store. There are also crayon shaped banks that you can drop your monetary donations into. Those proceeds will be used to purchase more school supplies.

“School supplies are essential to a child’s success in the classroom, and the reality is that many families in our community are unable to purchase these items for their children,” said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United Supermarkets, LLC. “The money and supplies we collect will help ensure new kindergarteners have the proper tools to learn and develop in the classroom.”

Make sure while you're doing your grocery shopping to pick up an item or two and drop it in the barrels or donate a couple of dollars to help get our kindergarteners off to a good start this year.
