Allison Mack Sex Cult Case Continues: Four More Arrested
Four more people have been arrested in connection to an ongoing case against alleged sex cult NXIVM, according to The Associated Press. The investigation originally sparked interest earlier this year when Smallville actress Allison Mack was apprehended by authorities for trying recruit new members, possibly including Emma Watson and Kelly Clarkson.
Clare Bronfman, heiress to the Seagram's liquor empire, and three others have been arrested for racketeering conspiracy, the U.S. attorney’s office in Brooklyn confirmed. NXIVM president Nancy Salzman, her daughter Lauren Salzman and the Salzman's employee Kathy Russell were also taken in by police.
NXIVM founder and leader Keith Raniere was arrested alongside Mack earlier this year.
A video of Mack recorded in 2013, in which she praises NXIVM offshoot JNess, resurfaced earlier this year.
“Working for JNess is the most gratifying thing I’ve ever done,” she said. “It’s the most challenging because it consists of working with a group of people who are interdependent. No one is ever punished or told that they’re wrong or they’re bad.”
Now, Mack faces 15 years in prison for her involvement with the group, which has been accused of forcing women into having sex with Raniere. Mack has been accused of luring other women into the cult and blackmailing them, according to Page Six.
