Chris "Shieldo" Shields passed away in 2008 at the age of 22. His memory lives on through others with the 'Chris Shields Memorial Scholarship'. The fund was created to benefit a graduating high school senior from the Big Country.

Stoney LaRue

There is no more recognizable name in Texas/Red Dirt music than that of Stoney LaRue. Quite simply, he is on the cusp of iconic status. After taking six years off between studio albums, it's as if he never missed a beat. Stoney has been keeping busy on tour in support of the newest CD, 'Velvet'. Stoney's latest offering has also seen his biggest success on the national level, as 'Velvet' reached #15 on the US country charts. With all the national success, LaRue still manages to maintain his popularity on the Red Dirt music scene, mainly for two reasons: he's extremely talented, and he spends a lot of time touring through Texas and Southwestern U.S.
