Well here we are again, more controversy centered around Duck Commander Phil Robertson. As you will remember, a few weeks ago A&E suspended Phil for comments he made about gays. This time it's because he said men should marry girls that are 15-16 years old. I've watched the video in which these statements were made and I feel he was joking around.

If you just read the text of his speech, then yes, it sounds really bad. However, if you watch the video and hear the crowd you can tell he's joking. Phil has a very dry sense of humor. I also feel people that don't even watch the show are now digging up old videos and making judgements on people they know nothing about. (My opinion, you can have your own).

The video shows Phil speaking at event from around 2009 and making this statement:

“Look, you wait ‘til they get to be twenty years-old and the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they’re about fifteen or sixteen and they’ll pick your ducks.”

Now if you watch the show or have read any of the books, (I have not read Phil's but did read Korie and Willie's) then you know he would not want his granddaughters to be married off at the age of 15-16. He talks to them on the show about waiting until marriage for 'relations' and isn't so fond of even kissing for his teenage grandkids. I have female friends who joke about marrying a younger man so you can train them up right, the way you want.

To me this is just another chance for people to make something out of nothing. It was an attempt at humor, and only a piece of the video is shown here, not the whole speech, so I, as a female, am taking all of this with a grain of salt.
