The season opens Thursday for Texas hunters. Everyone is getting their guns cleaned and ready, stocked up on shells and gear and chomping at the bit for sunrise September 1.

Now I’m kinda new to dove hunting. I only got 4 birds last year although I’m pretty sure I used more than 4 shells. So here are some great tips for dove hunters.

Doug Painter with the National Shooting Sports Foundation shares a few tips in the following video. Everything from making sure you have enough water to finding your birds once they are on the ground to the best angles and stance to use.

I’m ready, got my license yesterday, getting more shells Wednesday, guns are ready to go. My goal this year: do better than last year! Be safe and enjoy!
