Get ready for a summer like no other as the City of Abilene Parks and Recreation Division release its list of activities and events for this year. The City of Abilene Parks and Rec Division encourages families to take advantage of all the different types of events and activities that are directly geared towards families.

As earlier reported, the Abilene Parks and Recreation Division had opened its Splash Pads earlier in the year in mid-April. While most of the events and activities are free there are some events that may have a small cost attached to them.

See below a list of events and locations where the "Family Fun" events will be taking place. While most of the events will be 'movies in the park' other activities will include some hands-on activities.

Parks and Activities

  • Rose Park will host "Shrek" the movie beginning at sunset between 9 pm & 9:15 pm on Friday, June 11th and the event is free.
  • Sears Park will host "Coco" the movie beginning at sunset between 9 pm & 9:15 pm on Friday, June 16th and the event is free.
  • The Abilene Convention Center is hosting the "Mother and Son Dance." Tickets are only $12 per person and must be purchased in advance online. This event is open to moms and/or mother figures with sons ages three to thirteen and the dance is on June 24th at 7 pm.
  • Drive-In-Movies at Adventure Cove Water Park will be showing "The Greatest Showman" is Friday, June 25th at sunset and the cost is $4 per person.
  •  Drive-In-Movies at Adventure Cove Water Park will be showing "Elf" is Friday, July 23rd at sunset and the cost is $4 per person.
  • Drive-In-Movies at Adventure Cove Water Park will be showing "Peanuts the Movie" is Friday, August 13th at sunset, and the cost is $4 per person.
  • Champions Day at Adventure Cove Water Park. Individuals with disabilities can enter the cove free and up to four family members can get in at a reduced rate of $4 per person. The event will be Saturday, August 7th from 7 am-11 am.
