It's finally here. After decades of Pride parades across the nation and a year-long postponement here locally, Abilene’s first-ever Pride parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, 2022 in downtown Abilene. Hosted by the Abilene Pride Alliance, the debut parade begins at 2 p.m., followed by a festival featuring a variety of vendors, music and love-for-all at Nelson Park’s Festival Gardens. The event was initially planned for September 2021 but then canceled and rescheduled due to concerns over last year's rise in local Covid cases.

Pride parades marched into modern-day culture around 1970 in response to the 1969 Stonewall riots, a critical moment in the LGBTQ social movement. The parades seek to celebrate acceptance of the LGBTQ movement, create and nurture a more gracious community, and serve as demonstrations for legal rights, primarily those of same-sex marriage.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ or love someone who does, come support our community at Abilene’s inaugural Pride parade on September 24. Bring your allyship and wear all your rainbows! For details on the parade, a list of affirming businesses, and resources for mental health, click here.
