Harry Dean Stanton, Star of ‘Godfather II,’ ‘Escape from New York,’ ‘Alien,’ Has Died at 91
Harry Dean Stanton, accomplished actor, musician, and singer, has died at 91 years old. He starred in almost too many films to name, from Pretty in Pink to Repo Man, to Cool Hand Luke, Alien, Escape From New York, and Wild at Heart, and was beloved by fellow actors, directors, and critics alike.
Watch Michael Fassbender Take a Leap of Faith in New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Clip
There are three things you have to know in order to be a good Assassin: how to tell who your enemies are, how to throw a dagger, and how to jump off of things. In this new clip from Assassin’s Creed, Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch/Aguilar knows his enemy (it’s easy to tell when they’re aiming a crossbow at you), throws a ton of daggers with deadly accuracy, and takes one death-defying leap of faith.
Justin Kurzel Wants the Potential ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Sequel to Go Cold War Noir
Even though Assassin’s Creed hasn’t even come out yet, and its sequel prospects are pretty up in the air, despite an ensemble cast of some of the most talented actors working today (let’s be honest, the trailers look bizarre, but we’re staying hopeful), director Justin Kurzel is already making plans for the next installment. He knows where he wants it to be set, and it’s about as far away from the Spanish Inquisition as you can get, without going in the opposite direction. (Assassins fighting Templars and dinosaurs would be cool though. Hmm. Anyone have Kurzel’s email?)
Fox Animation and ‘Trolls’ Director Making a ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ Movie
Dragons seem to be one of pop cultures fantasy mainstays: How to Train Your Dragon was so popular it got a sequel and is getting another, Peter Jackson’t Hobbit movies brought a motion-capture Smaug to the big-screen, and this year’s heartwarming Pete’s Dragon made our list of the best summer movies of 2016. With a lull in dragon content before HTTYD 3 arrives, Fox Animation announced today that it has acquired the film rights to what is arguably the saddest song in the whole world: Peter, Paul & Mary’s “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
Listen to a Preview of Michael Giacchino’s Retro ‘Rogue One’ Score
Michael Giacchino recently inherited scoring duties for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after Alexandre Desplat had to bow out over scheduling conflicts — so recently, in fact, that he only had a month to compose the soundtrack for the whole movie. He’s been on a pretty successful tear though a bunch of franchises: he provided the music for Doctor Strange, the Star Trek revivals, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, so he sounded like a good fit for the Star Wars universe too when we heard he’d been hired on. Today, we got our first listen at some of the new pieces, and they’re perfect.
