Summer time is fast approaching. School will be out, vacations are on the horizon, lazy days by the pool and you need a good book to read to accompany all of these occasions. I put together a list of a few books that I'm told are 'must reads'.

    Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I was told this book was a fast read, suspenseful, humorous, with lots of twists and turns. Sounded really good so I've already purchased this one and tried to start reading it this weekend. Lot's going on so I only got a couple of chapters read but I can't wait to read more, it does seem that it's going to have a fast pace. I can't tell you much about the book other than it's a husband and wife who have lost affection for one another and then the wife goes missing. Can't wait to get some quite time so I can really dive in.

    Natchez Burning by Greg Iles

I've been looking forward to this book for months! I've read ALL of Greg Iles books and this new one, his first in 5 years, is part of a trilogy. It's a Penn Cage book, which if you know any of Greg's books, this is a recurring character. His books take place in Mississippi and are totally intriguing. Penn is a lawyer/former prosecutor whose Doctor father has been accused of murder. As with all of Iles books, this one I'm sure won't disappoint.

    Prey Series by John Sandford

Apparently this is a series I've been missing out on, as many of my friends suggested these books. If you have read some or all of these there is a new one to add to your collection; Field of Prey, which was released early May. This one deals with what appears to be a serial killer who lives near by and is probably known by everyone in the town. Sounds like a nice little summer mystery.

    Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

I don't read much romance work but I'm told this is a good one if you do. Maybe Someday is a #1 Bestseller and has some rave reviews. The main character, Sydney, has what seems to be a perfect life; until she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her. She then turns to her neighbor who catches her eye and affection. She will have another new book coming this August.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

This book has been turned into a movie. Usually though the books are much better so this might be one you want to read first. This is a romance dealing with a cancer patient who is terminal but falls in love despite being 'terminal'. This book comes highly recommended by critics and fellow book readers alike. I'm told you need a box of Kleenex to accompany this book so be prepared to be greatly moved.

The Yankee Way by Willie Randolph

If you are a Yankee's fan then you will want to grab this book by former Yankee player and Mets manager Willie Randolph. Who better to tell you what it's like to play for both New York teams than someone who has first hand experience. He is a born and raised New Yorker and tells of his upbringing and his rise to play for one of the greatest franchises in baseball history. My co-worker and fellow Yankees fan Frank Pain interviewed Willie a few days ago so be sure to check out that interview here.

    The Closer by Mariano Rivera

The title says it all. Mariano Rivera was one of the best closers in professional baseball. He also just happened to play for my favorite team, the Yankees. Yes, another Yankees book! Rivera didn't dream of being a pro baseball player, in fact, he thought he would be a good mechanic. Picked out of Panama, he didn't even speak English, when coming to the states. He married his kindergarten sweetheart, stayed true to his Christian roots and still became one of the best known baseball closing pitchers of all time. I can not wait to read this autobiography!!
