Cara Delevingne Explains Why She Hates Modeling So Much (So Much!)
Cara Delevingne, one of the world's most identifiable models, really hates modeling, it turns out!
Delevingne, who's been shifting her career toward acting in recent years (Suicide Squad and Valerian accounted for two of her most recent roles), told The Radio Times in a new interview that the fashion industry's stronghold over creative projects — and its treatment of the models it hires — has left a bad taste in her mouth.
"I didn't like myself as a model. I didn't like what I stood for. I didn't like what it was turning me into. Not that I was focused about how I looked all the time, but it is kind of about that," she said. "That is not me at all — you speak to all my oldest best friends and they know I’m not a model."
That all said, Delevingne says she'll likely continue modeling now that she's in a position to exercise more control over what goes into projects.
"I’m not out of it. I will definitely still do it," she said. "(But) Now when I model, I get to style my own shoots and decide who I work with. It’s become a creative outlet, instead of me being used as a pawn."
