Cee Lo Green – Shay’s Spotlight Artist of the Week
Cee Lo Green is a very busy man. Singing, songwriting, producing, and more. You might also know know him as half of the duo Gnarls Barkley. Not only that be he's also part of a music group known as Goodie Mob. Plus, until just recently he was serving as a mentor and judge on the hit talent show 'The Voice'. Now, that's a busy man!
Cee Lo was born, Thomas DeCarlo Way, in Georgia. His father died when he was a toddler.When he was about 16 his mom was in an accident that left her paralyzed and two years later she passed away; Cee Lo was only 18. That sent him into a depression but it might have been his career ambitions that saved him.
He had just started having success with the Southern rap group Goodie Mob when all of this happened. In 1995 they released their debut album 'Soul Food' to much praise. Their 3rd album was in the works in 1999 when Cee Lo left to concentrate on his solo career.
He worked on a 2 solo albums before joining forces with DJ Danger Mouse and forming the duo Gnarls Barkley.
Gnarls Barkley released their first album in 2006 which was a huge hit in the U.K. and is still Cee Lo's best selling work. The duo released their next album about two years later. It wouldn't be until 2010 when Cee Lo returned to solo work with an album called The Lady Killer.
He has served several seasons as a mentor and judge on the very popular TV show The Voice. With all of these creative outlets it's not hard to find some great music from Cee Lo in whatever capacity he might be serving at the time.
