George Harrison’s Birthday – February 25th [VIDEO]
George Harrison would be 69 years old this Saturday (February 25, 2012). The youngest Beatle, George brought a distinctive sound on lead guitar and vocal, and even more of a trademark with his slide guitar work. Nobody played sweeter on slide than George Harrison, in my opinion.
George died in 2001 at the age of 58, due to cancer, brought on by years of heavy smoking. His final album ‘Brainwashed’ was completed with the help of his son Dhani, and fellow Wilbury Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra.
George was overshadowed during his Beatle years by the songwriting and vocals of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, but as the years have passed, his songs and talent stand up to their legacy. George wrote ‘Something’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘If I Needed Someone’, ‘Taxman’, and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, among others.
His solo career featured the Number One hit ‘What Is My Life’, along with songs like ‘Crackerbox Palace’, ‘Blow Away’, ‘All Those Years Ago’, and the final Number One hit from any solo Beatle with ‘Got My Mind Set On You’. We remember George on his 70th.
