The Dallas Cowboys received some horrible news today as star offensive lineman, Tyron Smith, suffered an avulsion fracture on his knee and will be out indefinitely. Well, this sucks.

According to NFL.com, Smith suffered the injury during practice on Wednesday, August 24th. Smith was hurt on a running play and went down as he was trying to block Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch.

Initially, the Cowboys thought the injury had something to do with his knee, but tests indicated his ACL was good to go. However, this morning, it was confirmed that Smith has an avulsion fracture, which basically means he tore his hamstring off of the bone. Ouch!

Here's footage of Smith hurting the knee in practice

The injury is a huge blow for the Cowboys as Smith was one of their most decorated lineman and responsible for securing quarterback Dak Prescott's blind side.

The Cowboys were already thin on the offensive line and have been trying to address their depth issues. They drafted Tyler Smith (no relation) to help secure an offensive line that has had several issues over the past few seasons. They have also played Josh Ball in place of Smith during practice but the second-year lineman is no Tyron Smith.

The good news for the Cowboys is that they do have some cap space so they do have some options to go after another lineman. The question is, will they try to go after a veteran lineman, or will they try to make it work with the guys they have?

All I know is that this is a huge loss for an already questionable offensive line. Nope, this is not good news at all.
