Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is better known to you and me as Lady Gaga. A native New Yorker, Gaga is well known for her flamboyant stage show and costumes, but it's her music that resonates with young and old alike. We take a look at her wide range of musicality in this weeks spotlight.

Gaga has come along way from being a Catholic school girl in Manhattan's Upper West Side. She was, even at a young age, a misfit of sorts so she did what she could to try and fit in. She learned to play piano at 4,  wrote her first song at 13 and performed at open mic nights at 14.

She then did high school theater and finally attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, which she eventually dropped out of, to pursue music. She tried a rock band and an avant garde group but it was her writing that finally got her a publishing deal with Sony/ATV.

It was at the publishing company that she met Akon who realized she could sing and helped her get a record deal. Her first album was released in 2008 and was well received by the public and critics. She then released an EP the next year and has followed that up with 3 more full length albums. The last of which was a jazz album 'Cheek to Cheek' with the legendary Tony Bennett.

She has sold over 27 million albums in just a few years and has a massive and devoted fan following known as 'Little Monsters' she is known as 'Mother Monster'. She grabs headlines with her shocking and flamboyant costumes, such as her dress made of meat worn at the 2010 MTV VMA's. No doubt that what ever she is wearing she owns it and does so with confidence. But with all that said she also has a softer side, such as with her new album with Tony Bennett. Gaga has been looking more elegant and less 'monstrous' while touring with Bennett.

Gaga is also a philanthropist who does a lot of work with the LGBT rights groups. She has become a powerhouse and an influential woman to many. She also lends her support to anti-bullying campaigns, natural disaster relief organizations, HIV & AIDS organizations, and more.

Just this week Gaga announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend, actor Taylor Kinney. He popped the question on Valentine's Day with a very large, heart shaped diamond solitaire. She said YES!
