K-Pop Girl Group LOONA Conquer 2018 EMAs With Best Korean Act Win
The rookie K-pop girl group took home the award for Best Korean Act at the 2018 MTV Europe Music Awards last night (November 4) in Spain, beating out fellow K-pop acts WJSN (Cosmic Girls), (G)I-DLE, Golden Child and PENTAGON in the category.
Launched in 2013, the EMAs Best Korean Act category has crowned winners from some of the Korean pop industry's biggest, most successful and influential groups, including EXO in 2013, B.A.P. in 2014 and 2016, BTS in 2015 and GFRIEND in 2017. The win positions LOONA as a future major force in K-pop.
The winner of the Best Korean Act award is determined by international fan voting, proving the global power of LOONA's Orbit—a.k.a. the fans.
The twelve-member act, who released their debut mini album + + in August, previously premiered in three sub-units—LOONA yyxy, LOONA 1/3 and LOONA Odd Eye Circle—as well as through solo releases before making their official debut as a full group this past summer.
LOONA won the 2018 PopCrush KPMA for Best Collaboration in August.
