Mat Kearney  was born in Oregon but now resides in Nashville. It was a trip to Nashville that peaked his interest in music. Now he is making his mark on the Adult Top 40 charts.Kearney was raised in Oregon and attended college in California on an athletic scholarship. He studied literature and played soccer. It was that first trip to Nashville that Kearney decided to give it a whirl. He borrowed a roommates guitar and started picking and writing his own songs.

Soon he was playing coffee shops and earning a little money. He released his first album 'Bullet' in 2004. Kearney made his major label (Columbia) debut in 2006 with the album 'Nothing Left to Lose'. That album was followed by 'City of Black & White' and 'Young Love'.

His songs have appeared in many television shows and even on some movie soundtracks. A little trivia on why he goes by Mat, with only one 'T' - a nurse mistakenly wrote Mathew on his birth certificate, his mother never had it legally corrected so legally it is spelled with only one 't'. Also his last name is pronounced 'karni' like carnival.
