Miley Cyrus Jokes ‘A Lot of Drugs’ Ended Hannah Montana’s Career A Decade Ago
Miley Cyrus has come a long way since playing fictional pop star Hannah Montana on Disney Channel nearly a decade ago.
The singer addressed the proverbial death of the children's character during an appearance on RuPaul's Drag Race on Thursday. Before contestants were asked to lip sync to Montana's single, "Best of Both Worlds," Cyrus was asked by host RuPaul, "whatever happened to her?"
"A lot of drugs," the 26-year-old joked.
Cyrus has been open about her love of marijuana in the past, but in 2017 told Billboard she gave up the substance and was "evolving." She claimed she was "completely clean" by choice.
"I haven't smoked weed in three weeks, which is the longest I've ever [gone without it]," she told the outlet at the time. "I'm not doing drugs, I'm not drinking, I'm completely clean right now! That was just something I wanted to do."
She told Billboard she had outgrown what she referred to as her Dead Petz phase, referencing her 2015 psychedelic album. Around the same time of her self-proclaimed evolution, Cyrus rekindled her romance with ex-fiance, now husband, Liam Hemsworth.
Cyrus has since taken up smoking again, according to an interview with The Sun. She told the outlet mom Tish Cyrus got her "back on it."
"When I'm just working, I don't think I function at my highest, most intelligent, most being-able-to-be-as-aware-and-as-present, so I don't smoke when I work," she told the paper.
