Well, that didn’t take very long.  Just about ever since we knew that Debra Messing was making a regular return to TV, centered on theatre with NBC’s ‘Smash,’ no less, we knew it to be a matter of time before the stars of Messing’s former hit ‘Will & Grace’ put in an appearance.  However, Will won’t be piping up just yet, rather Jack, as Sean Hayes has signed for a multi-episode arc!  Who will he play, though, and will he burst into song?

According to a recent report from NBC, former ‘Will & Grace’ star Sean Hayes will appear in ‘Smash’ season 2 for a multi-episode arc, (presumably) reuniting him with former ‘Grace’ co-star Debra Messing.  Rather than tout Hayes’ natural theatre prowess however, ‘Smash’ season 2 will feature Hayes as Terrence Falls, a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in the musical “Liaisons,” based on the novel “Les Liaisons Dangereuses.”

Additionally, it’s said that due to a series of comic circumstances, he becomes a major thorn in the side for Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) and several other characters.  At this point, it remains unclear whether “Liasons” will have any relation to the show’s other in-universe musical, the Marilyn Monroe-adapted “Bombshell.”

Hayes joins the impressive cast of ‘Smash’ season 2, including ‘Rescue Me’ vet Daniel Sunjata as a new love interest for Julia,  Krysta Rodriguez as Karen’s new roommate Ana,  Andy Mientus and  ‘Newsies’ star Jeremy Jordan.  The former ‘Will & Grace’ star will also film an arc for the second season of ‘Up All Night.’

Jennifer Hudson also rounds out the names added to replace the departing cast of the first season, namely Raza Jaffrey (Dev), Jaime Cepero (Ellis), Brian D’Arcy James (Julia’s husband Frank) and Will Chase (Julia’s lover Michael). As previously reported, season 2 will also see the departure of show-runner and creator Theresa Rebeck, with former ‘Gossip Girl‘ EP Josh Safran stepping in.

What say you?  Do you think Sean Hayes has what it takes to fill ‘Smash’ season 2 with ‘Will & Grace,’ or will he fall flat?  Give us your thoughts on the series in the comments!
