Sophie Turner Says She Wanted to Keep Her Wedding to Joe Jonas Secret
After nearly one month since the newlyweds tied the knot in a surprise Las Vegas wedding following the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, the Game of Thrones star is opening up about why she would have preferred if no one had known they got married that night. “But it’s tricky when people livestream it,” she told PorterEdit magazine, obviously referring to Diplo, who basically recorded the couple's entire wedding ceremony.
“It would have been better if no one had known, but I actually think it was funny,” Turner explained. "Maybe not forever. I think at some point I would have had to stop saying ‘fiance,’ but yes, I would have kept it a secret."
"Marriage is a private thing between two people and I think that's how it should always be," she added. "It's not about the dress, it's not about the food. It's about being husband and wife, and being dedicated to each other forever."
Thanks to the DJ, we saw the actress walk down the aisle to Dan + Shay's live performance of “Speechless,” as well as witnessed the two exchange vows and Ring Pops in front of an Elvis Presley impersonator.
Turner's interview comes just days after her husband said Diplo "ruined" his wedding during an appearance on the radio show, Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp.
"Diplo did. Yeah, he ruined it," he confessed. "I love Diplo, but he loves his 'gram more than a 13-year-old. He posts every five seconds. He literally, like, live-streamed with dog face filters."
"We just laughed, we loved it," he added. "We thought it was ridiculous. And I just love that he was walking into the chapel and he's like, 'Going to hit this wedding real quick,' [in his Instagram Story]."
Diplo has since responded to Jonas' comments, writing "the only thing that ‘ruined' the wedding was your fit" on Instagram, to which the Jonas Brothers singer responded to with an eye-roll emoji.
Though Turner and Jonas are probably not actually upset with Diplo, they're still being super passive aggressive which makes this whole situation that much funnier.
