Tom Holland Reveals His Take on a Gay Spider-Man
Spider-Man: Far From Home actor Tom Holland offered his two cents on the possibility of a gay Spider-Man.
In an interview with The Times, Holland said that he would "of course" be fine with his character — or a future incarnation of the web-slinging superhero from Queens — coming out as gay.
"I can’t talk about the future of the character because honestly I don’t know, and it’s out of my hands," he shared. "But I do know a lot about the future of Marvel, and they are going to be representing lots of different people in the next few years."
"The world isn’t as simple as a straight white guy," Holland continued. "It doesn’t end there, and these films need to represent more than one type of person."
Holland may be referring to reports that Marvel is seeking an openly gay actor to play the lead star in upcoming film The Eternals. The new film will set up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Four of films.
In June, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, promised more diversity in future films. "We haven’t been shy about saying that that’s coming and that there’s much more prominent LGBT heroes in the future," he told Gizmodo.
